Executive Director Algorithm Watch CH

Angela is Executive Director of AlgorithmWatch CH in Zurich and Executive Board Member of AlgorithmWatch in Berlin. She is responsible for the strategy of the organization and especially for its work in the fields of policy and investigations. Angela focuses on the intersection of AI with fundamental rights, society, and democracy – and on their governance. She has served as an expert witness in hearings before the Swiss Parliament, the Council of Europe, and the German Bundestag; she is a member of expert groups within the Swiss Federal Administration; and in 2024, she was recognized as one of the “100 Women in AI Ethics” worldwide. In addition to her work at AlgorithmWatch, she is a member of the Federal Media Commission (EMEK) and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich. Angela studied political philosophy and ethics (MA) and holds a PhD in Law (Dr.iur.) from the University of Zurich, where her research focused on international human rights law. She was a visiting researcher at Columbia University in New York and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Before joining Algorithm Watch, Angela worked at universities, for an innovation platform, a civil society think tank, and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
